9.4 or better CrunchBang Statler? Statler beta or wait?
9.04 will reach its end-of-life this coming October and there are no plans to support it beyond that date. Statler alpha-2 is based on Debian Squeeze, you know, and I find it stable enough for everyday use -- much as I find my original model eeepc 701. Both do what they were designed to do and do it very well. ![]()
Someone else may say wait for beta or release candidate. I say go ahead and download Statler alpha-2 and try it for a week or two as a live CD and decide if it's right for you. Personally I can't answer which is better never having tried version 9.04.

+1 for Statler. Since Squeeze is in "freeze," there will be no more major changes, and it's stable enough for everyday use.
but firefox is out of date...

It's not out of date -- it's being actively supported by Mozilla, it's just not current. Two different things. Why not download a current version of the fox to your user file and, um, use it. ![]()

Debian (and by extention, #! Statler) is all about giving you stable, well-tested applications. Sometimes this means they are a little out of date... but they work!
You can always grab the latest Firefox from mozilla.org ![]()
oh my lord dont even get me started on how alpha2 statler is better than 9.04
yes 9.04 was an excellent release but all i have to say is "Debian".
in 9.04 firefox is 3.6.8...in statler 3.5.9...

Are you having a specific problem with Iceweasel 3.5.9, or are you just thinking "newer is better"?
You can always get the newest Firefox for any Linux distro (including #!) here:

Yes. And one is based on Ubuntu, the other Debian. Honestly, can you expect two differing, I mean different companies to do things the same way? Or to stay in step with each other? I believe snowpine mentioned stability over currency as the deciding factor in Statler. ![]()

I honestly didn't find any differences in stability, newity, or addon compatibility
I'm not any kind of experienced enough to comment on the differences but as a new linux user, and having used #! for about a year almost, I love the new version. There's a few things I might tweak different (default gui font, and look maybe) but I think Statler, so far, is totally awesome.
One of the best things for me, right off the bat, was the inclusion of the wireless drivers- my card was instantly recognized and with just the encryption settings, I was on-line in less than 30 seconds.
I love it.
I'm DL the GTK version now....
p.s.
I installed the i686 version without thinking, on an AMD64 machine (most of my rigs are intel so it just slipped my mind) and -weird- it works just fine. Has an issue coming out of standby (duh) but otherwise, seems totally normal. LOL.
I say, get Statler and use it for a week or two on the side, via live CD. Save anything you change or customize to a USB (I keep all my settings backed up that way anyway) and if you like it, then install it. 9.04 is nice, and rock solid, but why not use the latest?
@CheekyBangBang, i486 i686 and amd64 are cpu architectures. If you have a new computer with 4GB of ram or over, you want to use amd64. it has nothing to do with whether the actual processor is amd or intel. Similarly, using i686 on a computer with 4GB+ of ram will only limit you, as you can't use all of your ram.
I'm not going to start a discution here but, if you guys see this topic and answer to me, it would be awesome:

My system is not upgrading, my iceweasel is currently on 3.4.x, even with apt-get update, upgrade, others.
Sorry for the little troll here...
I personaly use statler because my monitor wasn't supported on 9.04, it's 1920x1080, but the max resolution was 600x400. So I went the easy way and got statler.
FSM: well, there is Itanium but Intel knew they lost the 64bit game to AMD so they just went with AMD64. Not that Itanium is really common
