There is now an alternative method available for installing CrunchBang Linux. Basically, the alternative installation method involves preparing a “CLI” installation of Ubuntu, before downloading a shell script which will download and install all the packages and customisations needed to transform the system into CrunchBang Linux.
Note: scripts currently only work for i386 builds.
The scripts can be found at:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/build-scripts/crunchbang-installer-8.10.01.sh
The scripts need to be run as root. It is not recommended that the scripts be run from a full Ubuntu installation, at least, I have not attempted this myself. If you want to give the scripts a try, follow the instructions below.
1. Prepare a “CLI” only installation of Ubuntu. I find that using the Ubuntu MinimalCD is best for this.
2. Download the script with the following command:
wget http://crunchbanglinux.org/build-scripts/crunchbang-installer-8.10.01.sh
3. Make the script executable with the following command:
chmod +x crunchbang-installer-8.10.01.sh
4. Run the script as root with the following command:
sudo ./crunchbang-installer-8.10.01.sh
5. Follow the on-screen instructions and reboot when finished.
